Qatar’s deputy minister of foreign affairs – Sheik Mohammed Bin Abdurahman said his country’s open foreign policy has enabled them to get involved in mediating countries like Eritrea and Djibouti that are in a border conflict.

Sheik Mohammed Bin Abdurahman, in an interview he gave to ‘Qatari Al Arab’ newspaper pointed out his country has also facilitated the peace talks between Palestinian Fatah and Hamas; and Sudan and Darfur.

The deputy minister told the newspaper that Qatar has gained a lot of confidence from several countries in the world.

Djibouti, however, stresses out the Qatar-facilitated peace talks with Eritrea has not gained any traction in the last five years.

Djibouti’s President – Ismail Omar Gule, in a recent interview with a French language newspaper of Jeune Afrique, underlines his frustration on the development of the peace talks which has stalled, according to the President, because of Eritrea’s refusal to disclose the number of POWs and release them to their country.
