Eritrea’s former finance minister is to publish a book on the country’s past and Present state of affairs

Eritrea’s former Finance Minister is to publish a book that accounts the past and current affairs of the country, Radio Erena source reported from Asmara.

The former minister – Mr. Berhane Abrehe, who had been holding the position for ten years before he was sucked by the government after his challenge to President Isaias Afowerki – at a cabinet ministers meeting, for the accountability of the revues from mining exploration projects by his office, and for the government to evaluate its governance and adapt constitutionality in order to ensure that the country’s human resource is being utilized efficiently.

 

According to the sources, the former minister has been denied permission to leave the country to seek medical treatment and that his movements have been closely watched by the government, especially, now that reports have been leaked of his preparations to distribute his yet to be published book.

Mr. Abrehe had joined the Eritrean struggle for independence from the United States of America in the early 1970’s and had served in various positions up until 2001 when he became the minister of finance.

Mr. Abrehe’s position is now filled by the country’s former Auditor General – Mr. Berhane Habtemariam.
