The International Human Rights Organization addressed Violation of Women’s Rights in Eritrea

An International group advocating for women’s rights held a workshop regarding the violations on Eritrean women, confirmed news reports from Geneva.

According to a statement by the United Nations, the endless national service in Eritrea has gravely affected the women in the country.

 

The Eritrean delegation, on the other hand, has pointed out Eritrea’s efforts in achieving the Millennium goals, reducing child and expectant mother mortality rate. and preventing HIV AIDS and Malaria epidemics in the country.

Many participants of the meeting held in Geneva underscored women in Eritrea suffer gender-based abuses and that several of the women in various secrete and known detention centers are sexually harassed, as it has continuously been verified by several women who are able to escape the harsh violations and seek refugee in various western countries.

Eritrea is a signatory of the 1995 global Beijing initiative to End Violence against Women.
