Radio Erena: 29 December 2014
Sudanese secret service and police are rounding up Eritreans and detain them unanimously, reported Erena Radio sources.
The sources said Eritrean houses in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum are being searched without any search warrant. The sources believe that the rounding up in Khartoum is related to the tensions in the Shegarab refugee camp.
Although the rounding up, which is ruled out by some as human rights violation, exclusively focuses on Eritreans, the Ethiopian Embassy in Khartoum is reported to have been engaged in talks with the Sudanese government as a precautionary measure to protect its nationals.
Our sources further pointed out the UNHCR office is closed for Christmas and New Year Holidays and warned the Eritrean refugees with or without any form of residence permit to stay locked in their place of residence or to be extra careful should they have to leave their place of residence for any emergency purposes until the UNHCR opens for business.
