Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia held a rally in support of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry report in the capital Addis Ababa on Friday the 26th of June, reported Radio Erena representative from the city.

The demonstrators marched to the Head Quarters of the African Union and the office of the European Union and delivered letters in support of the COI findings on widespread crimes against humanity which is reportedly committed again the Eritrean people by President Isaias Afwerki’s government. The respective letters also entail the current situation in Eritrea.

According to the UN Human Rights COI findings, the government of Eritrea was responsible for forcing hundreds of thousands of Eritreans to flee their country, and detailed extrajudicial killings, widespread torture, sexual slavery and enforced child labor; sexual violence against women and girls in the military training camps; and routine and random arrests at whim, detention, torture, killings and reports of nationals who went missing.

Angered by the Commission’s report, supporters of the Eritrean government have, on the other hand, rallied in opposition to the report.

Meanwhile, Pro-change Eritreans in Israel and Europe have also held supporting demonstrations.
