Eritreans in Israel held a rally in support of the COI report

Eritrean asylum-seekers in Israel held a rally in support of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry report in Tel Aviv on Thursday the 25th of June, reported Radio Erena representative from the city.

The rally is reported to be organized by Eritreans and was attended by Eritrean asylum-seekers from various parts of country and Halot and that it lasted from 8 in the morning till 2 o’clock in the afternoon local time.

The demonstrators took off Levinski Park and marched to the streets of Ramat Gan where most of the European member-state Embassies are located.

 

The demonstrators delivered letters to the European Union representatives in Israel in support of the COI findings on widespread crimes against humanity which is reportedly committed again the Eritrean people by President Isaias Afwerki’s government. The respective letters also entail the current situation in Eritrea.

The EU representatives, on their part, confirmed their understanding of the situation of the Eritrean asylum-seekers in the Israel and promised to do everything possible in their power to help them out.

According to the UN Human Rights COI findings, the government of Eritrea was responsible for forcing hundreds of thousands of Eritreans to flee their country, and detailed extrajudicial killings, widespread torture, sexual slavery and enforced child labor; sexual violence against women and girls in the military training camps; and routine and random arrests at whim, detention, torture, killings and reports of nationals who went missing.
