Radio Erena: 14 April 2021

Egypt had canceled a state visit requested by the Eritrean president in last November.

Diplomatic sources confirmed to Radio Erena that a high-level Eritrean delegation led by the Foreign Minister Mr. Osman Saleh and the Presidential Advisor Mr. Yemane Gebrab handed the Egyptian president a letter from the Eritrean President on November 18, with a request of a bilateral meeting.

Due to tight work schedule, the Egyptian President suggested February or March for the requested meeting and later it was canceled without given reasons as the sources say.

In the proposed meeting the Eritrean President intended to present an Eritrean initiative to mediate the impasse between Cairo and Addis Ababa regarding the Renaissance Dam and to Orient the Egyptian leadership on the development in Ethiopia after the outbreak of war in Tigray in Early November.

The Egyptian-Eritrean relations pass through a period of chill due to the mounting tension between Cairo and Addis Ababa, at the same time Egypt rebuilding it relations with the neighbours of Ethiopia, in due course, Egypt is engaged in a full-level relations with Sudan.
