An Eritrean diplomat abandoned his post at the African Union and seeks for asylum

One of the 5-member-Eritrean Permanent Mission to the African Union in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa has defected and sought a political asylum in the country.

The diplomat who is known as Mohammed Idris Yawij has been serving in different posts since the Eritrean struggle for independence.

Ambassador Yawij pointed out his decision to abandon his post came due to a failed policy to fulfill the Eritrean struggle’s mission for democracy and justice by the government of Eritrea.
