Although the purpose of the president’s travel will focus on the conflict between the Eritrea and Djibouti, the president is expected to discuss bilateral relations with his Qatari counterpart- Amir Tamim Bin Hamad Kelifa Altani.

According to the sources, a high-level Qatar delegate led by Foreign Minister of the country – Mr. Khalid Bin Mohammed al Atiya had made an undisclosed visit to Asmara to discuss the conditions of Djibouti’s Prisoners of War held by Eritrea.

It is to be recalled that the Qatari leader – Amir Tamim Bin Hamad Kelifa Altani had sent a letter to his Djiboutian counterpart – President Omar Gele assuring him his optimism about the Djibouti-Eritrea conflict.

President Gele of Djibouti, on his part, has indicated on his response to Amir Tamim Bin Hamad Kelifa Altani that Eritrea’s refusal to disclose the conditions of its 17 POW’s has become the bottleneck for the continuation the Qatari-mediated peace talks.

President Isaias’ visit to Qatar has come in the wake of the beginning of flight by Qatar Airways to Eritrea as complaints on shortage of transportation has become prevalent.
