President Biden Extends Sanctions on Eritrean and Ethiopian Officials for One Year

Radio Erena News: 14 September 2022

President Joe Biden renewed the executive order extending his administration’s sanctions on Eritrean and Ethiopian officials involved in the war in Tigray for one more year.

US administration said that the situation in the Horn of Africa continues to pose a threat to U.S. national security and foreign policy.

The renewed order authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to deny visas, and freeze the assets and interests in property of individuals and entities who “threaten the peace, security, or stability of Ethiopia, or that have the purpose or effect of expanding or extending the crisis in northern Ethiopia or obstructing a ceasefire or a peace process.”

The renewal of the sanctions comes after the fierce renewal of the conflict in Ethiopia.
