Radio Erena: 21 August 2019

A biography of jailed Eritrean-Swedish journalist Dawit Isaac has been published in Swedish.

The 230-page book on journalist Dawit Isaac, who is one of the many Eritrean journalists jailed for 18 years, was written by Swedish journalist Martin Schibbye.

The book, titled ‘Jakten på Dawit’ “Hunt for Dawit” was launched on 19 August in the presence family members and 300 guests.

Writer and journalist Martin Schibbye was able to visit Eritrea twice in the last four years. The Eritrean government is usually not very welcoming of western journalists.

Along with fellow journalist Johan Persson, Schibbye has previously written a book on their 438 days at the notorious Qality prison in Ethiopia. The book had been a best seller in Sweden.

The biography of Eritrean-Swedish journalist Dawit Isaac is expected to get good public reception in the country as well.

The Eritrean government has jailed at least 11 journalists including Dawit Isaac, all of whom have not been heard from for the last 18 years.
