The city council of the Swedish capital of Stockholm is expected to rule on a petition to rename a major street where the Eritrean Embassy is located at after the jailed Eritrean-Swedish journalist – Dawit Isaac on the 15th of June.

The petition to rename the street in the localities of Lidingö has repeatedly been rallied by many politicians, fellow journalists and friends in the country.

If the Stockholm council votes for the renaming, the Eritrean embassy is going to be forced to change its address and will have to ironically use the name of the 14-year-jailed – Dawit Isaac on the mails it sends and receives.

Many sources say, however, that the Eritrean government might relocate its embassy in the city to a different location in the event the council votes for the renaming of the street.

Eritrea has jailed 11 independent journalists, including the Eritrean-Swedish Dawit Isaac, in September of 2001 and they have been detained incommunicado for the past 14 years.
