The government of Eritrea demolished residential houses in the suburb of Asmara, in a village called DaEro Paulos this past Tuesday the 3rd of March.
In the news confirmed by Radio Erena sources, this is a continuation. The government has similarly bulldozed 105 residential houses in the village of Tsolot on the 17th of February.
Many residents of the villages have been selling half of their government allotted lots in exchange for money in order to help them build their homes.
Although the government has issued a regulation that prohibits selling and buying landing and warnings have been issued to violators of this regulation, government hasn’t enforced it. As a result, people have been carrying on with the practice.
According to the sources, people in Eritrea are reported to be showing resistance against the government’s actions. The reports further pointed out the government has torn down residential house in the localities of Tsetserat and Biet Mekea in the capital Asmara, which are allegedly not built in accordance with the city plan.
Many Eritreans criticize the government for failing to find a solution to the rampant shortage of residential houses in the country.
