Qatari Leader reaches out to his Djiboutian counterpart on the Eritrean-Djibouti conflict

Amir Shiekh Tamim Bin Hamad Altani of Qatar sent a letter to the President of Djibouti – Ismail Umar Gele regarding the Eritrean-Djiboutian conflict, reported a French language published newspaper La Nation.

According to the report, in the letter that was delivered on the 10th of November by Qatari’s ambassador to Djibouti – Jasim Bin Jabr Surur, in the presence of Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mahmood Ali Yusuf and other dignified officials, expressed Amir Altani’s pleasure on the progress of the negotiation process of the Qatari-mediated Eritrean-Djibouti conflict.

 

In a press conference he gave after the delivery ceremony held at the governmental palace, Ambassador Jasim Bin Jabr Surur reiterated the message of the letter from his Amir and said that Amir Shiekh Tamim Bin Hamad Altani’s letter carries expression of his best wishes for a successful resolution of the Eritrean-Djiboutian conflict.

La Nation pointed out the letter from the Amir was in response to President Ismail Umar Gele’s similar letter previously sent to the Amir regarding the issue.

According to the Monitoring Group reports, Djibouti has suspended the peace talks with Eritrea due to lack of information on the whereabouts of its POW’s from the 2008 conflict with Eritrea.
