Radio Erena: 23 January 2015
A former Eritrean diplomat asserts that the diplomatic relations between the Eritrean government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as fragile.
Mr. Fetih Osman Ahmed, who was a member of the diplomatic corps taking on various roles first in Pakistan and then from 2003 through 2011 as a council in Saudi Arabia, made his assertions in an interview he gave to Radio Erena yesterday.
He said the embassy’s responsibilities have been limited to collecting services fee and diaspora taxes from the Eritrean nationals in Saudi Arabia ever since the deterioration of the relations with the country.
The former diplomat believes Eritrea’s relationship with the Kingdom was affected by suspected relations that Eritrea might have with Iran, Israel, and Yemen’s Huti armed rebels.
According to him, President Isaias’s repeated inquiries to the Kingdom to meet with Saudi Kings for talks have been rejected for years and that this is a proof for the rough relations between the two countries.
Mr.Ahmed who lives in exile had published a book in Arabic in 2013 illustrating the dreams and expectations that the Eritrean people had and the current dictatorial state of affair.
Meanwhile, King Abdela of Saudi Arabia died yesterday at the age of 90.
