Radio Erena: 04 April 2015
The government of Eritrea is reported to have torn down 220 residential houses in the town of DaEro Paulos on Wednesday the 1st of April.
In the news that has been confirmed by Radio Erena sources in Eritrea, the 220 dismantled houses are part of the 320 previously flagged [for demolition] houses and that the remaining 100 will follow suit in the near future.
Our sources also noted the demolition campaign, which is reported to happen in other towns and villages, is executed in the presence of army.
The widespread demolition campaign has left several Eritreans without shelter and most of them are seen to seek refugee with their families and friends.
Many Eritreans say taking such bold widespread action at a time when people are faced with shortage of residential houses and failing to stop the owners of the buildings at stake when they were erecting them shows insensitivity from the government toward the people.
