Hundreds of prisoners who are serving terms between 6 months to 5 years imprisonment for misdemeanors were taken from different prisons in Eritrea to Wia camp south of Massawa for military training, sources in Asmara say.
Among the imprisoned who were sentenced for theft, brawls, and gang fights are some women. Some of them have already been in the army earlier for the so-called National Service.
These prisoners will join hundreds of military trainees in Wia Camp, one of the hottest zones in Eritrea. The training Includes advanced military tactics and battle-oriented exercises, specially designed for those who will be sent to units involved in military operations.
