President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea on tour in Sudan held talks with his Sudanese counterpart – Omar Hassen Al Beshir on the current relations and boarder securities between the two countries.

In the meeting they held in the afternoon hours of Thursday the 11th of June, the Eritrean and Sudanese presidents also discussed about the newly launched mediation initiative by Sudan and Qatar to bring the feuding Eritrea and Ethiopia together for talks, reported Radio Erena diplomatic sources.

President Isaias has arrived in Sudan on Thursday morning for an official working visit to a warm welcome by President Al Beshir and high Sudanese government officials accompanied by military ceremony.

The Eritrean president has issues like the commercial activities in the Eastern Sudan, the growing commercial contrabands in the borders between Eritrea and Sudan, human trafficking and economic development between the two neighboring counties on his agenda to discuss with the Sudanese government.

Although President Afwerki was invited by President Al Beshir for his swearing in ceremony, he didn’t attend and this has opened up some debate about the relations between the two governments.

It is to be noted that Sudan and Qatar has launched a new initiative to mediate the neighboring Eritrea and Ethiopia, whose hostilities have been the bottleneck for regional securities and development.
