Radio Erena: 26 May 2015
The Eritrean diaspora community observed Eritrea’s 24th Anniversary of Independence with varied sentiments.
According to Radio Erena sources from Israel, change-seeking Eritreans observed the day by holding a round table discussions on the current situation in Eritrea contrary to the one organized by the Eritrean embassy, which was accompanied by a live concern albeit the recent tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea which costed 350 Eritreans.
The event was observed under the theme – ‘Independence is only meaningful when the promises of the fallen heroes are fulfilled’ and that many literary works in different languages reflective of the current situation in the country were presented at the event.
In a speech he made to the sympathizers of the government at the event the Eritrean embassy in Israel organized, the Eritrean Ambassador called the change-seeking Eritreans who were protesting in front of the hall non-Eritreans. The protesters were urging the Eritrean government to pay extra attention to the youth who are risking their lives in the Mediterranean Sea instead of fake jubilation in the name of independence.
In similar news, Eritrean change-seeking community in the Swedish capital of Stockholm held a demonstration in front of the event hall rented by the Eritrean embassy protesting against observing the Independence day by holding concerts when the country had just lost so many of its citizens.
Eritrean diaspora community is divided over the way they observe the 24th Anniversary of the country’s Independence.
