Radio Erena: 14 May 2015
Ten underage kids out of the hundreds of Eritrean immigrants, who applied for political asylum in Sweden in the last seven months, have been reported to committed suicide.
Although one of the main causes for these repeated incidents is attributed to the social challenges this unaccompanied kids face, many Swedish human rights advocates call for a special attention and investigation on the matter.
According to the human rights advocates, a 16-year-old Eritrean, who had been living with his Swedish host family, has committed suicide in the last three days.
Radio Erena confirmed the identity and was also able to obtain a photo of the 16-year-old.
It is to be noted that hundreds of unaccompanied underage Eritreans flee to neighboring Ethiopia and Sudan and then risk their lives to cross over to various European countries via the Mediterranean Sea.
Several of these kids often become victims of human trafficking and happen to be held hostage for ransom in the Sinai and Sahara desert.
