Assistant Foreign Minister for multilateral affairs and international security, Ambassador Hisham Badr, headed the meeting of The EU-Horn of Africa Migration Route Initiative Committee held on April 23 and 24, 2015 in Sharm El Sheikh.
There were a number member states from the African side (Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea and South Sudan), as well as the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Malta as for the European side, in addition to the EU and the AU Commissions.
The meeting also included a number of international organizations, including the United Nations, UNHCR, the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
The meeting aims to develop projects in order to implement the Rome Declaration of combating smuggling of migrants and human trafficking in the Horn of Africa. Representatives of the Ministries of Manpower and Immigration, and of the two National Committees to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking participated from the Egyptian side.
The Egyptian delegation presented a set of national projects in training and capacity building aiming to combat illegal immigration.
