Eritrean, Ethiopian and Somali immigrants in the Yemeni capital of Sane’a are reported to be seeking help.
The immigrants are registered with the UNHCR which has provided them with temporary shelter. However, they are now believed to be left helpless as the organization was forced to evacuate the temporary camp this past Thursday due to the tense Saudi-led airstrike against the Houthis and other opposition groups in the country.
According to UNHCR statements, although the organization has been facilitating the return of the Somali immigrants back to their country by fishing boats, there are still thousands of immigrants from other countries who remain trapped awaiting resettlement.
Ethiopia is reported to be registering its nationals, who are willing to return to their country. Eritrean immigrants, on the contrary, are seen to call for help from the international community as they have nowhere to go to.
There are 100, 000 Somali and Ethiopian immigrants in Yemen. There are also hundreds of Eritreans scattered around the towns of Hudayda, Sane’a and Tayiz.
