The government of Eritrea plans to shorten this year’s scholastic year and sends all teachers for a formal military training, confirmed Radio Erena sources from Asmara.

According to the reports, the government has decided to cut the school year by a month and end it by May 2015 in order to include the professional teachers between the ages of 40 and 60 currently working at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in joining for a military training per the government’s declaration.

Students are reported to be taking classes on weekends to make up for the anticipated shortage.

It is to be recalled that the members of the people’s army, which is comprised of elders and farmers between the ages of 40 and 65, were forced to report to a military training camp of Mai Lam in the Gash Barka Zone following repeated warnings by their respective local administration authorities that their families’ ration coupons were going to be revoked.
