The government of Israel arrested hundreds of Eritreans and Sudanese immigrants in unannounced raids conducted in the evening hours of Monday the 16th of February in the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv.
According to the news confirmed by Radio Erena sources from the capital, the raid campaigns that were executed in places such as Takona Merkez and Levishna where Eritrean and Sudanese immigrants frequented the most – allegedly to get those immigrants who left from the open detention center of Halot and those who have not renewed their residence permits, though it included all other immigrants, as well.
However, little has been known of the places where they rounded up immigrants have been detained.
The Israeli Ministry of Interior Affairs is known to have previously decided to keep the visa renewal processing offices for the immigrants centralized and that this has been dragging the processing time which created frustration among the immigrants.
Israel had declared a law to have any immigrant detained by police if found with expired residence permit.
