The demolition mission that took place last week in the north-eastern part of Asmara known as ArbaEte Asmara, has cause many family to be displaced and left them without shelter.

The sources confirmed, however, that the families had repeatedly been warned by the government to vacate the residential houses they illegally built and that they have waited until the demolition was executed.

Authorities of the Central Zone had executed a similar demolition mission in the western part of the city known as Tsetserat.

Many people criticize the decision by the government for executing of the demolition and for failing to find a sustainable solution to the shortage of residential houses in the city and rent hikes, especially, at a time when the people are suffering from economic hardship.
