Washington, D.C. Police reported to have launched an investigation on a security guard of the Ethiopian Embassy in the city, who fired shots to disperse protesters against the Ethiopian government.

An opposition television network – ESAT which aired cell-phone video footage of the reported incident, stated that the protesters had occupied the embassy for a short period of time and replaced the current Ethiopian flag [adopted February 1996] with an older one without the [star] emblem.

The security guard, who originally pulled his gun to stop the protesters from entering the premises of the embassy, was forced to fire four (4) shots up in the air to disperse them when they pushed themselves in.

The protesters have demonstrated against alleged human rights violations and the domination of the TPLF [Tigrian People’s Liberation Front] over the ruling party of the Ethiopian government – EPRDF [Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front].

According to source, members of the Gunbet 7 – one of Ethiopia’s opposition parties, have continually been protesting, ever since one of their leaders – Mr. Endargachew Tsigie, was surrendered to Ethiopian authorities by Yemeni government as he was travelling from Eritrea via Yemen.

In a related news, there are reports of attack against various Ethiopian authorities and diplomats who travel to the United States of America and Europe.
