Over 600 Ethiopians are registered to return home from Sudan and Libya, confirmed the Ethiopian government.

The speaker of the Ethiopian ministry of foreign affairs – Tewolde Mulugeta, in a statement he gave to local reporters, pointed out that the 240 are from Sudan and over 400 of them are willing to come home from Libya.

It is noted that the 400 Ethiopians, who are registered to return to their country from Libya, were detained in Bengazie before they were freed by an operation that was executed by Egyptian forces.

The operation by Ethiopia to save its nationals is taken after ISIS beheaded 30 Christians of Ethiopian and Eritrean origin in Libya last month.

However, there are only 40 Ethiopians who have voluntarily returned home from those thousands of immigrants in Sudan and Libya thus far.

Ethiopian media outlets speculate this operation by the government would encourage the thousands of Ethiopian immigrants to reconsider their decision to risk their lives by crossing to Europe and return home safely instead.
