The security forces conducted a house-to-house round ups of Eritrean men and women in the city, targeting specific locations where many Eritreans reside known as Al SiHaffa and Diem.
The campaign, which began on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid-AlFater and continued until this past Tuesday 12th of July, detained thousands of Eritreans, reported Radio Erena sources from the area.
The Sudanese government has been conducting similar campaigns for the last three months which has put around 3,000 (three thousand) Eritrean refugees in detention.
The government has continuously been handing over such immigrants, who are allegedly found to cross over to Libya en route to Europe to the government of Eritrea.
According to the UNHCR, though some of these Eritreans subjected to deportation were not duly registered refugees with the UNHCR many among the deportees are officially registered.
