Widespread Corruption Is Reported To Be Crippling the Eritrean Defense Forces

Members of the Eritrean national defense forces are reported to be facing critical condition due to lack of rations as widespread corruption scandal by their commanders looms.

According to reports from Radio Erena sources, the defense forces have been supplied with food rations and other basic necessities insufficiently over the past two years.

The 29th and 30th national service graduates, noted the sources, who have just been deployed to their permanent regiments following the completion of their pre-deployment assignments in the dam construction projects, are reported to be affected the most.


Eritrea’s Eri-Tel Cycling Club Takes Part At Tour Taihu Lake 2017

One of Eritrea’s cycling clubs – Eri-Tel is representing Eritrea in the Tour Taihu Lake 2017, which is taking place in China between the 10th and 17th of October.

Eri-Tel, which has 6 (six) members – Michael Habtom, Million Amanuel, Zemenfes Solomon, Sirak Tesfamariam, Daniel Hailemichael, and last year’s Eritrean champion cyclist - Meron Abraham, is led by a former cyclist with the Red Sea club – Aklilu Haile.

Eritrea has scored an international recognition in the cycling arena.


Chiefs of Police and Administrators from the Southern Zone met with their residents on Emigration

Leaders of the Police Department and Administrators of the Southern zone are reporting to be holding continuous discussions with various elders and administrators of various towns, villages and sub-zones regarding the staggering number of emigration, which has shaken the whole country.

According to Radio Erena sources from the area, the heads of the police departments and administrators of the zone, who met with elders and residents of Senafe, Mendefera, Adi Qeyih and Adi Khuala, pointed out that the youth are conspired by foreign propaganda to cross over to the neighboring Ethiopia and that they are believed to be supported by the residents of the sub-zones.


Eritrea Denies A Request By The World Council of Churches To Meet With The Deposed Leader Of The Orthodox Tewahdo Church

Eritrea denies a request made by the visiting senior delegation of the World Council of Churches – WCC, to meet the deposed leader of the county’s Orthodox Tewahdo Church – HH Patriarch Antonios, who has been under house arrest for the past 11 years.

The delegation, led by the Program Executive and Covener for Africa - Dr. Nugussu Leggesse and head of the Ecumenical Relations - Fr. Dr. Daniel Buda, made the meeting request following their meeting with the Secretary General of the Synod of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church – HH Bishop Lukas and the Synod’s administrator – HH Bishop Basilos.

The delegation, which disclosed the visit was granted after several attempts in the past years, stayed in Eritrea from the 22nd to the 28th of September.


Ethiopia Release 3 Eritreans After 11 Years Of Imprisonment

The Ethiopian government has released a total of 3 (three) Eritreans from prison.

The three Eritreans – 2 (two) of whom were employees of the Eritrean Ministry of Information and one from the Ministry of Defense, were under the Ethiopian custody for the past 11 (eleven) years.

The journalists identified as Saleh Gema and Tesfalidet Kidane and the member of the ministry of defense – who is only identified by his first name as Samson, were detained by the Ethiopian forces at the attack launched by Ethiopia against the Somali Muslim extremist group of Al Shebab in 2006 in the Somali capital of Moqadisho.
