Eritrea Forced To Delay 2017/18 Academic Classes Due To Shortage of Teachers

Many schools in various parts of Eritrea are reported to be delayed due to shortage of teachers.

According to sources from different parts of the country, the delay for the 2017/2018 academic year, which is mainly seen in the Southern and Anseba zones as well as remote rural areas of the country, is because majority of the teachers did not report back to their respective schools by mid-September as announced by the Eritrean Ministry of Education.

This comes to show, schools, like other government sectors, are faced with lack of human resources, noted the sources.


Government of Eritrea Detains 2 (Two) Member of Bizen Monastery

Government of Eritrea detains 2 (two) members of Bizen Monastery in retaliation to the denunciation by the Monastery against 2 (two) bishops for the Orthodox Church who are believed to collude with the PFDJ.

According to a press release published by the Synod of the Orthodox Church for North America, Europe and the Middle East on the 1st of October 2017, two holy men from the Monastery have been taken away by the country's national security agents following a strong condemnation issued against Bishop Lukas and Bishop Basilos for allegedly colluding with the ruling party - PFDJ.


Eritrea's Ruling Party's attempt to stop an Eritrean Festival organized by the City of Geneva Failed

An attempt by the Eritrean ruling party - the People's Front for Democracy and Justice - PFDJ, to stop an Eritrean festival, which was organized by the City of Geneva, has been failed.

According to Radio Erena sources, the festival was planned for 22nd through the 24th of September by Pre en Bulle - an organization supported by Swiss government's Office of Integration - the city of Geneva chapter.

The representative of the PFDJ at the Eritrean Consulate in Switzerland noted to have made the attempt to stop the festival because it was organized without the knowledge and approval of the government of Eritrea.


An Eritrean Air Force Fighter Jet Crushed during Training

An Eritrean Air Force fighter jet pilots lost their lives during training when their jet crushed on Monday the 25th of September.

The bodies of the two veteran pilots - a female and male, was laid to rest in Asmara the following day.

The Air Force has previously lost two veteran pilots in a similar manner within this year.

The cause of the crush is believed to be the age of the fighter jets and lack of spare parts. The force also suffers from lack of professional technicians which is partly caused by the abandonment of its members who seek refuge in the neighboring countries as a result of ill political conditions within the force.


Synod of the Orthodox Church warns of taking Legal Actions against Bizen Monastry Authorities

The Synod of the Eritrean Orthodox Church warns that it is set to take an action against Bizen Monastery for its decision to condemn two top bishops of the church for allegedly colluding with the ruling party - People's Front for Democracy and Justice - PFDJ.

In a press release published on the 22nd of September, the Synod of the church pointed out the denunciation by the monastery is illegal which was made by some members in the name of the monastery using its official stamp.

The press release warns that the denunciation is not based on evidence and is in contempt of the Orthodox church which did not follow proper rules of the church.
