Eritrea's Athletes reported not to gain any medals in the 2017 World Athletics Championship in London

Eritrean athletes who participated in the 2017 World Athletics Championship held in London between August 4 and 13, were reported not to do as well as expected.

Eritrea's marathon runner with a good record - Yohannes Tesfagiorgish, who was among the 8 athletes representing Eritrea in the Marathon, 10K, 5K and 3K meters competitions, finished 7th, followed by Kibrom Ghebregziabiher who finished 41st. A third Eritrean - Amanuel Mesel was reported not to finish the competition.

In the 10K race, Aaron Kifle finished 11th and Hzqiel Tewelde finished 17th. Another athlete - Nuguse Amlesom (also known as Wedi Hakim) had to dropped out after the first round due to injuries.

 In the Men's 3K Steeplechase qualifying competition, Eritrea's Yemane Habteselassie finished 9th and was disqualified, accordingly.

In a 5K Men's race, Ethiopia's Mukhtar Idris finished first beating the 5-year-record holder - the British Athlete - Mo Farah. Eritrea's promising young athlete Aaron Kifle finished 7th.

The 19-year-old Aaron Kifle who participated in a total of 3 competitions for a total of 20,000 meters within nine days- running against great international athletes in the London 16th World Athletics Championship 2017, was praised for his speed and pace by global sports analysts. Aaron was joined by another Eritrean athlete - Awet Habte who finished 14th.

The London championship that ended on Sunday the 13th of August with the United States of America taking first place with 10 Gold, 11 Silver and 9 Copper medals, while Kenay with a total of 11 and South Africa with 6 medals taking second and third place, respectively.

Eritrea's promising marathon runner- Ghirmay Ghebreselassie, who was expected to score higher records was reported not to participate due to injuries on his leg.
